  • Islamic Art workshop class with Arabic calligraphy by Sabeen Mansoori

    Never Alone

A mixed-media workshop completed with watercolors, gel pens and sharpies.

The Arabic calligraphy is a portion of verse 4 from Surah Hadeed, “He is the One Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days, then established Himself on the Throne. He knows whatever goes into the earth and whatever comes out of it, and whatever descends from the sky and whatever ascends into it. And He is with you wherever you are. For Allah is All-Seeing of what you do.”

  • Islamic art workshop on black canvas by Sabeen Mansoori ihsaanart

    On Turning 40...

This was a painting party hosted for a friend’s 40th birthday. She requested the ayat, “Give good news ˹O Prophet˺ to those who believe and do good that they will have Gardens under which rivers flow…” (2:25) on a black canvas.

The discussion focused on ayaat 15 of Surah Ahqaf, “We have commanded people to honor their parents. Their mothers bore them in hardship and delivered them in hardship. Their ˹period of˺ bearing and weaning is thirty months. In time, when the child reaches their prime at the age of forty, they pray, “My Lord! Inspire me to ˹always˺ be thankful for Your favours which You blessed me and my parents with, and to do good deeds that please You. And instil righteousness in my offspring. I truly repent to You, and I truly submit ˹to Your Will˺.”

  • Watercolor painting of Arabic Calligraphy in Mixed Media for Islamic art workshop

    Patient and Grateful

This is a mixed media painting with watercolors, acrylics, white and gold acrylic pens and sharpies. The words inscribed in the waves breaking upon the shore are found in two separate Surahs.

In Surah Shura verse 33 Allah (swt) reminds us of his power, “If He willed, He could bring the wind to a standstill and they would lie motionless on the surface of the sea– there truly are signs in this for anyone who is steadfast and thankful–”

And in Sura Luqman verse 31, “[Prophet], do you not see that ships sail through the sea, by the grace of God, to show you [people] some of His wonders? Truly there are signs in this for every steadfast, thankful person.) In both ayaat Allah (swt) mentions the ships, and in the first one they are still and in the second one they are moving.

The inspiration behind the painting is to reflect upon the idea that I should strive to be patient and grateful under all circumstance; whether my goals and dreams are at a standstill or they are in motion.

  • Islamic Art Acrylic Painting workshop with artist Sabeen Mansoori

    Reflect

This is an acrylic on canvas panting of the words of the hadith of Prohet (saws), “Every believer is the mirror of his brother. He protects him against loss and defends him behind his back.” (Al-Adab Al-Mufrad by Bukhari)

This workshop emphasizes the importance and dynamics of sisterhood in Islam. The paintings created were beautiful, and the conversations were deeply insightful and relevant.

  • Islamic art workshop watercolor painting dua of Nuh by artist Sabeen Mansoori

    Istaghfaar

This was my very first workshop and was conducted on Zoom. The supplication of Nuh (as) is written on the boat being tossed around on the waves, ‘So he cried out to his Lord, “I am helpless, so help ‘me’” (54:10), and the names of Allah, ‘Ar-Rahman’ and ‘Ar-Raheem’ are written in the water.

The workshop was for a group of female entrepreneurs and focused on the barakah that Istaghfar can bring into our lives.

  • Mixed media watercolor Islamic painting class with artist Sabeen Mansoori of Ihsaanart

    For Love of Palestine

This has been my most popular workshop, alhumdolillah. A mixed media piece made from watercolors, white and gold acrylic gel pens and black sharpies. The Dome of the Rock is painted in a semi-abstract style with olive tree branches in front and the words, “...Allah ˹alone˺ is sufficient ˹as an aid˺ for us and ˹He˺ is the best Protector.” (3:173) written above the golden dome.

These words hold a special and profound meaning for us now as we hear them uttered by every man, woman and child in Palestine, within the context of the horror they are living through. They are a testimony to their unwavering faith and courage.

The discussion in the class will focus on the meaning and power of these words, its relevance to our lives, and of hope based upon reliance upon Allah (swt). I was blessed to travel to Jerusalem so I am able to share some of my personal experiences in the Holy Land.
